Thank you for your interest in a tour to Papua with us, Papua Adventures. The Kombai, Korowai and Korowai Batu tribes are very similar. They all build and live in tree houses, and both hunt and gather food in the forest in much the same way.

The Kombai have a little more tradition of singing songs and the Korowai have the reputation of being more territorial. And the Korowai Batu are known to me a little more territorial and aggressive with outsiders.

To get to the area of the Korowai Batu, we will first start in the Kombai territory. A few days from the Korowai territory. Then we will trek through Korowai territory
and then reach our destination, the Korowai Batu!

The Korowai Batu are not easily reached, but our Kombai and Korowai friends can take us there. Because one of them has family that married with a member of the Korowai Batu. So, he and some of his family members will escort us into the Korowai Batu area. This will help assure that we will have a safe passage.

Other companies "claim" that they've visited the Korowai Batu. But according to my friends there, nobody has undertaken the route that we intend to use. We
start from a different village than other companies and enter from a different
direction. We are allowed to enter this way because we have a good relationship with the Kombai and Kombai in the area.

Almost all tour companies take the same route over and over again. It is easier for them, and they don't like to take the time or the effort to explore new areas in the Kombai and Korowai areas. We like to explore new areas. It keeps it interesting for us and gives our clients something unique. That is to visit an area that has never been traveled by westerners before.

We will fly into the Kombai/Korowai area by a chartered airplane. These airplanes are very expensive as is chartering a plane anywhere in a remote place. The cost of the airplane is included in the price of the tour.

17 DAYS KOMBAI - TREE HOUSE PEOPLE


Day 1
We will fly from Denpasar, Bali to Jayapura, Papua. Check into our hotel and get our travel permit. We will also get the necessary food supplies that we will need for our trek into the Korowai Batu area.

Day 2
We will fly in the early morning on a chartered Pilatus Porter airplane to the Kombai area. To get into the Korowai Batu, we will first have to start in Kombai tribe territory. Then we go through Korowai area and finally into Korowai Batu area. We will get our porters ready and then spend some time getting to know the village chief And we will overnight in a former Missionary house.

Day 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13
We will spend these 11 days trekking is some of the most pristine lowland rain forest in the world. Along the way we will try and stay with the various tribes that inhabit the region. The Korowai are more territorial than the neighboring Kombai. And the Korowai Batu are even more so. These tribes still practice cannibalism. And they can be aggressive. Don't worry they won't eat us. It is ritual cannibalism among the tribes.

I have high quality rain proof North Face and Kelty tents to sleep in and Therma-Rest ground pads that are very comfortable to sleep on. Porters will carry all of your equipment. All you will need to carry (if you want) is your day pack with camera and
water bottle.

Days 14
We will trek back to the village where the plane dropped us off. And we will overnight in that village.

Day 15
The chartered Pilatus Porter airplane will come in the morning to pick us up and take us back to Wamena. We will check into our hotel and explore around the Wamena area.

Day 16
We will fly to Jayapura in the morning. We will check into a hotel in Jayapura and have the day and early evening to explore around the city of Jayapura. We will go to the arts and crafts village of Hamadi. There you can purchase handicrafts from various places within Papua.

Day 17
We will fly from Jayapura back to Denpasar, Bali. The tour will be concluded.

This tour price INCLUDES
Round trip airfare (Bali to Jayapura, Papua), airfare (Wamena-Jayapura), the cost of the chartered airplane, all accommodation, all meals and beverages, travel permit, guide fee, porters, ceremonial fees and airport taxes.

This tour price does NOT INCLUDE
Tipping, alcoholic beverages, laundry, travel insurance and personal health insurance.

Price is subject to change, depending on the cost of the charter airplane.

This is a very interesting tour and you will experience something that you will never see anywhere else in the world.
